What is the Jackson Purchase?
In 1818, General Andrew Jackson and Governor Issac Shelby secured the Jackson Purchase as the final land parcel to make up the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Named for Robert Fulton, inventor of the steamboat, Fulton County is the westernmost county in Kentucky.
Its location along the Mississippi River offered easy access for shipping agricultural products downstream.
Its fertile bottomlands proved beneficial to the farming families who settled here.
Today, It’s About the Bourbon
Fast-forward to 2021, when a group of seasoned entrepreneurs and bourbon enthusiasts, led by Fulton native Lloyd Jones, brought seventh-generation master distiller Craig Beam to resurrect and expand a dormant distillery that would become the Jackson Purchase Distillery.
In the first four years, Jackson Purchase Distillery produced more than 100,000 barrels of bourbon for new and existing brands.
While keeping a close eye on the aging of those barrels, Craig was amazed by how the western Kentucky microclimate gives bourbon six to eight weeks of warmer weather each year. He realized the flavors enhanced by the warmer weeks would lead to a bourbon to carry the Jackson Purchase name.
Decades of Experience, Since 2021
The Jackson Purchase distillers, boasting over half a century of experience, set aside a few barrels of bourbon from their earliest production. This limited-quantity bourbon features a mash bill and barrel char that they have developed and finely tuned over decades of distilling experience.
